FORMULA ONE IN TURKEY

No fines for Turkey this year. Last year they got fined €5,000,000 for using the race to a political end. They were also in danger of having this year's race cancelled. Felipe Massa was the winner as he was last year. Followed by team-mate Kimi Raikkonen and Alonzo in third.

The 'world championship' is neck and neck with Alonzo and his team-mate Hamilton only five points apart. Hamilton is in the lead. The next five races should be very interesting. Up next is Italy, Belgium, Japan, China and Brazil.

CHAMPCAR IN BELGIUM

ChampCar is in Belgium this week. The winner, in the center, is Bruno Junqueira. On the left is Sebastien Bourdais, second, and is pulling out in front of the pack to be the champion of the series. On the right is Graham Rahal who came in third.

They have five races left in the series. They are (in order) The Netherlands, Australia, China, Mexico and Phoenix, AZ.

INDYCAR IN CALIFORNIA

And the winner is Scott Dixon and he also pulls into the lead for the championship. In second place was Helio Castroneves and third was Dario Franchitti. Franchitti was bumped out of the championship lead by Dixon, but they are still neck and neck. Only two races left...Detroit and Chicago.

FESTIVAL OF SPEED AND STYLE

This is the first year for the 'Detroit Festival of Speed and Style.' Parking around on the downtown streets, taking a couple of cruises and a drive around the new IndyCar track on Belle Isle which is an island just off of the city.

Friday

NEW LANDSPEED RECORDS

A huge total of 552 entrants for the Bonneville Speedweek which was run last week. Some of the tracks had to be moved because of the poor weather. I never knew that it could flood there.

Mike Nish, whose car is pictured above, drove the Chevrolet V-8-powered Nish Motorsports/Royal Purple No. 998 AA/FS streamliner to a speed of 377.715 mph. He already belongs to the 200 MPH Club’s 300 MPH Chapter.

Scott Guthrie, pictured below, captured the motorcycle portion with 250.135 mph in a 1,650cc-powered Hayabusa for a record in the MPS-BF class. Scott and his team of riders have more records that anybody owing to the team effort of Scott Guthrie Racing.
