BAD LUCK AT MONTEREY AUCTIONS

These three cars were stolen from the auction grounds at Monterey, California. The top one, a 1961 Chevy, was stolen from the Russo & Steele compound. The other two, a 1961 and a 1957 Chevy, were taken from the Mecum lots. If not found fast enough they could end up as parts cars. What a shame! A perfect reason to have your insurance start from the time the hammer falls. If any of you should happen to know anything about this call California Highway Patrol at 1-831-796-2100.

INDYCAR IN CALIFORNIA

WILL POWER

As always the race was much tighter than Formula One. Difference between 1st and 2nd was 1.1930 seconds. Scott Dixon, after leading for 27 laps got a penalty that knocked him out of the lead. The top three spots had been bouncing between him, Power, Wilson and Franchitti. That is the way it ended, Will Power - 1st, Wilson - 2nd and Franchitti in 3rd. I like this track and hope that it stays on the schedule next year.

Tony Kanaan had an accident and a penalty for that accident and ended up in 13th.

Takuma Sato started having car problems around lap 20 that never seemed to get corrected, then an accident bring on his retirement leaving him in 23rd.

FORMULA ONE IN BELGIUM

ALONSO - 2ND, VETTEL - 1ST, HAMILTON - 3RD

This is one of my favorite tracks. Problem with today is that the cars got spread out too quickly and left me with nothing to get excited about. Hamilton got away on the start, but Vettel passed him in the first lap and never looked back. He didn't need to, in the end he was a full 16 seconds in front of Alonso. Alonso was 11 seconds ahead of Hamilton so you can see what I mean about 'spread out.'

Alonso did a fine job coming from 9th place to 2nd.

Mark Webber, running his last races, had a problem at the start of the race, but ended up in 5th.

A LITTLE SOMETHING TO DO IN YOUR RETIREMENT

Two guys from Australia, Rod Wade and Michael Flanders, hot off the trail from the Peking to Paris Rally are planning a trip across the United States. Their plan is to make the 3,000 mile passage in 60 hours in a 1930 Model A Ford. I would love to do this trip, but not in 60 hours, there is too much to do and see. And there is no such thing as too old, Rod Wade is 70. As so many cross-country travelers (walkers, runners, bikers, motorcyclists) have done they will take a bottle of water from the Atlantic and pour it in the Pacific. They are pictured above on their way through Mongolia. So, if they drive across the States by the time they get home they will have driven around the world. Nice!

GO DIRECTLY TO JAIL, DO NOT COLLECT $200

STANLEY TORGERSON

International Classic Auction’s (ICA) owner Stanley Dean Torgerson will spend more than three years in prison for bilking customers of his classic car sales company.

The Maricopa County Attorney’s Office announced Aug. 16 that the 67-year-old Gilbert, Ariz., resident was also ordered by a judge to pay $1.5 million in restitution to his victims.

Prosecutors say Torgerson sold vehicles through ICA but pocketed the money and never delivered the cars. He had been in business since 1989 but was accused of skimming sales proceeds and not delivering cars beginning in 2009.

Torgerson was arrested in 2011 and accused of defrauding approximately 50 victims from four states, Canada and England out of approximately $700,000. He was indicted in May 2011 on 101 counts including fraud and theft. Torgerson pleaded guilty to three counts of fraudulent schemes and one of theft in a June plea agreement.

Torgerson tried to blame employees for embezzling the money. However, no other employees of ICA are reportedly facing charges stemming from this case.

SPECIAL OF THE WEEK

1949 HUDSON

This is a 1949 Hudson Commodore Coup and is in day one condition. It has been stored on jacks and blocks. There is no rust. There is a rub mark or damage to the interior where the original owner got in and out, but other than that, the interior is perfect. It has a straight 8 engine. All original parts to engine, interior, and on body. The paint is a little different then what would have been on the original car, but we think it looks more slick. It is in perfect condition, and no restoration work is needed. Exterior pictures are slightly dated, but reflect condition of the car. It has been in storage and needs normal cleaning to remove dust, however, it is in day-one condition.

SPECIAL OF THE WEEK

1974 TRIUMPH SPITFIRE

Yellow, with new Black interior, chrome bumpers, metal badges – Nice!

73,260 miles. Engine was professionally rebuilt at 68,018 miles, receipt documentation. Body restoration is documented in photos. More photos available. A solid, well-running example of a great looking, fun to drive roadster. Needs a top, but the convertible frame is complete and in good shape. 4 cylinder 1493 c.c. engine with 4 speed manual transmission. This Spitfire comes with the desireable factory Laycock de Normanville electric overdrive. Owners manual and receipts included. Pull the choke, turn the key, drop it into first gear and drive it home. This car turns heads and gets you noticed! A great way to see fall foliage views.

Update: Many folks have asked whether the lights, switches, etc are working. I've added a 3 minute video showing that the electrics are working. Also, I've added two pictures of the engine compartment. I've also added pictures of the paint blemishes and minor rust areas so you can have a complete picture of the condition of this car.

Make an offer. I believe that this is one of the better Triumphs for sale in the Northeast at this price point.

Don't miss out.

INDYCAR IN OHIO

SIMON PAGENAUD, 2ND - CHARLIE KIMBALL, 1ST - CHIP CANASSE -DARIO FRANCHITTI, 3RD

An uneventful race at one of my favorite tracks. On lap 73 Kimball made a very nice pass around Pagenaud and never to look back. This was Kimball's first win in IndyCar. Dario Franchitti came in third.

Takuma Sato was running in the back all day. Is this a result of his penalty? It is starting to look like it.

Tony Kanaan's car died on lap 64 giving him a last place, 24th.
