INDYCAR IN OHIO

Mr. Ashley Judd, oops, Dario Franchitti won at Mid-Ohio. Mid-Ohio is one of my favorite tracks and I can remember going there when it was brand new. Forty-eight years ago and on into the 80's. These days it is a little harder for the Indy cars to race there because of the width of the car. He chalked up his 25th win in the series with a year off to do NASCAR. Which he should not have bothered with. His only other win this year was the big one... The Indy 500.

Coming in second and third were Will Power and Helio Castroneves...both podium regulars. For these 3 drivers they are up there in the point standings. Will Power - 461, Dario Franchitti - 420 and Castroneves - 340. Power and Franchitti are #1 and #2 in the points with only 5 races left for the season.

All smiles, not like what we have seen in Formula One the last two races.

STOLEN IN JULY

1966 Corvette convertible and a 1969 Camaro SS clone, were stolen from a storage facility in northwest Arkansas July 27 or July 28. The Corvette theft is especially disheartening because the owner is the second owner and has had it since 1974. More on the cars:

1966 Chevrolet Corvette – VIN #194676S127342. Sunfire Yellow, black interior, black top. Engine is 327/350. 4 speed, front disk brakes. Car is in very good condition. Car was numbers matching.

1969 Chevrolet Camaro – VIN# 124379N707667. Cortez silver with black stripe. (no other SS features) SS emblems have chipped white paint. Black interior. Engine is 327/350. Automatic with shift kit. Car is idles rough when in gear, just after startup… idles fine in gear. Might have black Arkansas antique license plate.

THE RECORD

The longest time I have had a vehicle is 15 years. My 1980 Chevy Pick-up which I kept until it was stolen in 1995. A lot of people keep their cars until they have over a million miles on them, but still don't keep them so many years. Last week I read about a woman that had a Mercury Comet for 54 years. Amazing, I wouldn't even own a Mercury Comet. Now here is a guy, Allen Swift, who received this 1928 Rolls-Royce Picadilly P1 Roadster from his father, brand new, as a graduation gift in 1928. He died last year at 102 and donated the car to a museum. Apparently, he holds the record. 170,000 miles and in perfect shape.

FORMULA ONE IN HUNGARY

Another race with driver penalties, team fines which effected the outcome of the race. Webber, with his fourth win the season, does what has become his signature leap in the air. There are drivers that do 'donuts' with their cars, some climb fences and others are just damn glad they won. So, at mid-season he is in the points lead.....not by much....but there.

Alonso, from Ferrari, was very pleased to capture second. Third went to a very disappointed Vettel, who due to a penalty was bumped from the lead position early in the race.
