FORMULA ONE IN SPAIN

ALONSO, 2ND - MALDONADO, 1ST - RAIKKONEN

I am liking Formula One this year. Five races and five different winners. A fairly new driver, Pastor Maldonado, picked up the win for his first time. Driving for Williams it was a happy time. For Frank Williams it was his 70th birthday and the first time his team had won since 2004. In the old days the Williams were always on top.

Alonso, who is Spanish, would certainly like to have the win in his home country. He seemed very happy to have a good showing with his second place.

Third went to Kimi Raikkonen from Lotus for his second podium in as many races. Even today you can't get a smile out of this man.

Maldonado must have felt very proud standing in first place on the podium with two former world champions. Alonso was the champ in 2005 and 2006 and Raikkonen was the champ in 2007.

So, happy days don't always go as well as they should. While Frank Williams was giving his birthday speech and congratulating Maldonado on his win their garage blew up. Injurying nine people. Frank Williams, who has been in a wheelchair since a 1986 road accident, was wheeled to safety.
