SPECIAL OF THE WEEK

1953 BUICK

This 1953 Buick Roadmaster Riviera has just received a complete body on restoration of a solid, low mileage original car. 1953 was a big year for Buick with the introduction of their first V-8 engine and 12V electrical system. This Roadmaster has the 322 CID V-8 , Airpower 4-barrel carburetor and Dynaflow automatic transmission. The drive train is in excellent working condition, the engine recieved a complete tune up and new fuel pump. The restoration consisted of removing all exterior trim, chrome, all body panels removed and stripped to bare metal. chrome and stainless trim was restored or plated. The body and panels did not need any rust repairs. The car received a fresh show quality base coat clear coat Glasurit paint job. The interior still has its original two tone green leather and cloth interior, original door panels, and newer carpeting. Dash and interior metal trim still has original paint and dash di-noc film. This Roadmaster is highly optioned, with factory Air conditioning, power seats, power windows, selectronic radio and clock.Gauges are original and functioning. Power steering and brakes , in great operating condition make this car a pleasure to drive. The car has new radial tires. the under side of the car is solid and dry. Overall the car runs and drives great. It is a rust free car in sensational shape, inside and out. This car can be enjoyed for years to come.

RACE WINNER AND NEW SEASON CHAMPION

Scott Dixon pulled a double whammy today by winning the race and also winning the Championship for the season. Juan Pablo Montoya had been the championship point leader after every race all season, but today he ended up tied with Dixon.....the breaker being who won the most races during the season. Montoya won two and Dixon three. This story shows me exactly why I don't like the awarding of double points in the last race. If there hadn't been double points Montoya would have won his hard earned and rightful championship. Formula One is doing this on the last race too. I don't get it and I think it sucks. Second and third went to Ryan Hunter-Reay and Charlie Kimball.

Others of interest to me:

Tony Kanaan - 4th
Ryan Briscoe - 5th
Juan Pablo Montoya - 6th
Takuma Sato - 8th
Sebastian Bourdais - 20th

So, it is the end of an interesting season......2016 in March coming next.

RYAN HUNTER-REAY

Considering that last year this race did not have on single caution flag this looked like a destruction derby. Under a caution flag finish the winner was Ryan Hunter-Reay. Josef Newgarden came second with Juan Pablo Montoya following in third.

It has been quite a while since I have seen a race with so many accidents. By race-end over half of the field was out of commission, 14 cars. Almost all of them due to accidents.

JUSTIN WILSON

In the very worst accident, Justin Wilson driving for the Andretti Team, was struck in the head by a nose-piece flying through the air from a wall hit by Sage Karam. He is in very critical condition and in a coma as of this writing. I wish him a speedy recovery.

As for others that I like to keep track of they ended the race like this:

Takuma Sato - 6th
Ryan Brisco - 8th
Ed Carpenter - 17th - accident
Tony Kanaan - 19th - accident
Sebastian Bourdias - 23rd - accident

FORMULA ONE IN BELGIUM

NICO ROSBERG, 2ND - MERCEDES OFFICIAL - LEWIS HAMILTON, 1ST - ROMAIN GROSJEAN, 3RD

One of the old tracks that I still like very well. The results are not much different than they usually are this season. Louis Hamilton was the leader from start to finish for all practical purposes. With short stints in first by . Teammate Nico Rosberg came in second. Lotus' Romain Grosjean came in third for the first podium finish since    .

My favorites, Felipe Massa and Nico Hulkenberg with Massa in 6th and Hulkenberg did not get to start due to electrical problems.

SPECIAL OF THE WEEK

1967 PONTIAC

350 CID V-8 ... Automatic ... Dual exhaust ... Power steering ... Signet Gold Metallic ... Gold bucket seats ... Center console ...

There is something unmistakable about the styling of the mid-1960s Pontiacs. From their coke bottle silhouette to their “Wide-Track” stance and quad-stacked headlights, their styling is both immediately recognizable and iconic.

This gorgeous V-8 powered 1967 Pontiac LeMans convertible has been refinished in its original color of Signet Gold Metallic. The finish has a beautiful luster that is further enhanced by a tasteful amount of chrome and brightwork. Its black power convertible top is also in excellent condition, and contrasts nicely with its finish. You'll also appreciate its optional Rally II wheels and Uniroyal raised letter tires, which give the car a nice sporty element.

Sportiness and distinction are not relegated to the exterior of this car, however, as one look inside will attest. Inside this original interior you will find Gold “Morrokide” vinyl bucket seats and an optional wood trimmed center console. Its full array of Summit Racing auxiliary gauges will keep you informed about what's going on under the hood. You'll also appreciate its AM/FM stereo with cassette and power convertible top, complete with original gold boot. Its rubber Pontiac floor mats also add a nice touch of authenticity to the interior.

Under the hood you'll find a SBC 350 CID V-8 mated to an automatic transmission. Fuel is supplied by a four-barrel carburetor, and its dual exhaust will reward you with a satisfying exhaust note. Its optional power steering will help you corner on those twisty two lanes with ease. Best of all, this LeMans runs and drives as well as it looks.

Recent mechanical work performed on this LeMans includes the following:

Change of convertible top hydraulic fluid
New spark plugs
New starter
Newer tires
Newer tail pipes
Newer battery

Enjoyed by its most recent owner for the last fifteen years for summertime drives and cruise-ins, this car has been regularly driven and meticulously maintained, including regular oil changes.

One item of note is that the Super Pro tachometer is not currently hooked up, but can be connected or removed by the next owner if desired. In addition, minor imperfections in the finish and chrome do not detract from the overall appearance of this car.

KEN COSTELLO........1927 - 2015

Ken Costello was born in Kent in 1927 and displayed a passion for engineering from an early age: by  18 he had graduated from Woolwich Polytechnic having specialised in automotive engineering, later working at the Motor Industry Research Department in Brentford. But he quickly marked himself out as being a hands-on designer.
His first major foray into tuning came in 1959 while souping-up a friend’s Mini. Costello took the car to Castle Combe, setting a lap record in the Special Saloons Group 3 Class, following it up with further success at Brands Hatch, Mallory Park, Crystal Palace and Snetterton. He proved a force to be reckoned with behind the wheel of a Mini, but his early racing career included a number of other models. Over the course of 10 years, the tuner entered more than 400 saloon races.
By the mid- to late 1960s, Costello had graduated to Formula Three after purchasing an ex-Chequered Flag Brabham BT20 with a Cosworth MAE engine. It was in this car that he got his first taste of the silver screen while driving it during filming of the movie Grand Prix.
Of course, it was his passion for the MGB for which Costello became a household name. After returning from filming, he began to tinker with a Rover V8 and a red MGB Roadster borrowed from a friend. Despite the factory ruling out V8 power due the restrictions of the B’s body shell, Costello quickly had his working prototype. His long-time employer, Lady Cripps of Cripps Brothers, was the recipient of his next car, this time a B GT featuring an MGC rear axle. Shortly after he went into business himself, opening premises near Farnborough.
He quickly attracted the attention of Longbridge, and was courted by director of engineering Charles Griffin, who arranged for British Leyland engineers to test one of his conversions. They were suitably impressed and forged ahead with a factory car, which emerged in August 1973. But, fearing competition, BL cut off Costello’s supply of Rover engines, undercutting his prices in the process.
The recognition that was never forthcoming from the factory was amply supplied by MG fans and enthusiasts, who recognised the enormous contribution Costello made not only to the MGB GT V8 project, but also the RV8 in later years. He became a regular visitor  at MG club events, and was a friend to many.

INDYCAR IN OHIO

Yum! To the winner a chocolate milkshake. Graham Rahal, at his home track, was able to pull off another win. Now, there is only 9 points separating him and championship lead, Juan Pablo Montoya, with only two races left for the season. Justin Wilson came in second and Simon Pagenaud was third.

I really like the Mid-Ohio track although I don't think it works as well with modern Indy cars. In my youth I spent a lot of time at this track.

Some of the other driver ended up like this:

Tony Kanaan - 5th
Juan Pablo Montoya - 11th

Sebastien Bourdais - 17th
Ryan Briscoe - 18th
Takuma Sato - 24th (contact)
