INDYCAR IN CALIFORNIA

HELIO CASTRONEVES-2ND, ROGER PENSKE-OWNER, WILL POWER-1ST, RYAN BRISCOE-3RD

Roger Penske is a happy man. His team came in 1-2-3 for the first time since 1994. A decent race at a beautiful track in Sonoma, California. Very few cars were counted as out so they had almost a full field at the end. There were three substitute drivers filling in for two injured drivers and for Simona di Silvestro who was not allowed back in the country after a visit home in Switzerland. That is a load of crap and I sure want to find out more about that. You could see what racing is up against in this rough economic time. The stands were empty as they are at all races in Indycar and Formula One. It has been this way for three years and television does such a good job most people feel 'why go.' But this is the first time I have ever heard announcers make mention of it. Can racing last? Formula One has 600 million viewers, but the stands are empty.....except for China. Next week a new race on the Streets of Baltimore.

FORMULA ONE IN BELGIUM

VETTEL IS THE WINNER

The usual suspects came in one and two, Vettel and Webber, both driving for Red Bull. Jenson Button did a nice job coming in third from 13th. Michael Schumacher did one better, went from 24th to 5th. This track is one of the old ones and one of favorites. I have never been there, but they tell me that it is in a beautiful area.

INDYCAR IN NEW HAMPSHIRE

RYAN HUNTER-REAY

I don't know why I don't like oval track racing because they are always exciting. This race with 5 or 6 yellow flags and 2 red flags which knocked out half of the cars was something. With most of the field gone by lap 220, in a misty rain, running on the yellow flag the drivers and the owners asked that the race not be restarted because it was too wet. But, start they did, taking out about half of the 12 cars that were left. With the race stopped, the officials decided to let the race stand as it was under the yellow instead of awarding the drivers that crossed the finish line. Ryan Hunter-Reay got a 1st place under that decision. Oriol Servia crossed the line as first, but was bumped back to second. Scott Dixon got a third.

INDYCAR IN OHIO

DARIO FRANCHITTI, 2ND - SCOTT DIXON, 1ST - RYAN HUNTER-REAY, 3RD

Ever since this track opened in 1962 it has been one of my favorite road courses. And now almost 50 years down the road it still is a fantasic track. During the 60's I was there many, many times. With the points from his second place finish, Dario Franchitti has pulled far into the championship lead. Scott Dixon got his first win of the season and has won here before, 2007 and 2009. Ryan Hunter-Reay is a happy camper with third. My favorite this year, Tacumo Sato, came in 4th....got to be happy with that.
