IF YOU ARE TRAVELING.....

MURPHY AUTO MUSEUM

The Murphy Auto Museum is a non-profit museum that boasts a collection of over 50 cars displayed by many collectors from the tri-county area surrounding Oxnard, California. It houses a wide variety of classic and special interest vehicles.

Many great cars in this area have been tucked and are seldom see the light of day and are, therefore, infrequently seen by the general public. When Dan Murphy retired from his neurosurgery practice in Ventura, he set about to form a non-profit museum that would house these great cars. Dan Murphy opened the museum on August 2, 2002.

The museum is located in a 16000 sq. ft. building, including an "old car showroom" area. Thanks to the assistance of Holley Gene Leffler, the museum now has an extensive vintage clothing display representing all decades from the 1890s to the 1970s.

The museum is open every Saturday and Sunday from 10 am- 4 pm to serve locals and tourists. Arrangements can be made at any time for private parties and tours for automotive clubs, assisted living centers, and school groups

SPECIAL OF THE WEEK

1937 CADILLAC

Cadillac is believed to have built only eleven of the Fleetwood bodied padded leather roof Style 37-7509F Formal Sedans in 1937 on the V-12 chassis, the last year for Cadillac's smooth, quiet, powerful V-12 engine. Only one of them, this example, is known with the sloped back passenger compartment, the others having a bustleback built-in trunk. Fitted with a rollup division window, jump seats, smokers' kits, rear window shade, enclosed sidemount spares with mirrors, Appleton fog lights, hubcaps, trim rings, wide whitewall tires, heater, clock and radio, it has blind rear quarters in the formal roof design with pivoting vent windows in the back of the rear side windows. A CCCA Senior National First Prize winning restoration, it is believed to have covered under 48,000 miles since it was originally delivered through Don Lee Cadillac in Los Angeles three-quarters of a century ago. It was once owned by a television industry screenwriter who thoughtfully included it in several episodes of the CBS series 'The Munsters'. It was one of few automobiles large enough to accommodate the exaggerated Fred Gwynne character of Herman Munster and starred in one Season One episode, 'The Midnight Ride of Herman Munster', prior to restoration. Indicative of its careful preservation, it comes with a full service manual, original tool roll, copy of the Cadillac build sheet, owners' correspondence as well as a season one DVD and promotional stills from 'The Munsters'. A believed unique example of Fleetwood coachwork on the Cadillac V-12 chassis, it has an equally unique and colorful history, a gorgeous restoration and exceptional preservation in the care of sympathetic owners. Whether on a CCCA CARavan or in a Halloween parade, it is a singular automobile of the highest quality.

AND WHAT ABOUT 2014?

2014 FERRARI ENZO F70

Luxury auto lovers are debating over the Italian luxury car maker’s latest incarnation, which will arrive at the Geneva Motor Show in March of 2013. Car lovers are more excited than ever before about the F1-derived KERS hybrid system paired with a V12 engine, which Ferrari has never done before. Renderings and spy video of the mystery car, the car has a sleek, very low-to-the-ground body that is without a doubt designed with aerodynamics in mind.

Information is limited, but here’s what is known so far. Unlike the F12berlinetta, the design of the new Enzo—internally designated the F70— will not be a collaborative effort with Pininfarina, but will be an internal affair instead. A V-12 will likely be the engine of choice, combined with a KERS hybrid system with all-wheel-drive traction.

2014 ASTON MARTIN VANQUISH

This new 5.9 liter V-12 sits lower and lighter, blending much more power (565 hp, 457 lb-ft) than any old mill’s 510 hp, while still claiming greater fuel efficiency, thanks in part to the incorporation of variable valve timing. Connecting the power plant to the 6-speed automated manual rear transaxle is a carbon fiber prop shaft surrounded by an alloy torque tube. Aston claims that 60 mph will arrive in 4.1 seconds, and that the Vanquish tops out at 183 mph.

Inside the car, there is a brand new interior, which reveals One-77-inspired stitch patterns and details like a haptic touch surface on the center stack. The cockpit has been expanded for less of a cocooning effect, while the “boot” offers 60 percent more space.

So all you have to do is open the upwardly tilting “swan” doors and go inside where you will be comforted by the pleasant leather interior. You can snuggle up to the imaginatively sculpted leather seats—some of which are available with teardrop-style quilted patterns. Oh, we cannot forget that Vanquish  always offers  Aston’s typically operatic sense of occasion, right down to the glass-capped key fob that slides into the dash and starts the big V-12 engine.

2014 C7 CORVETTE STINGRAY

The 2014 Corvette Stingray is designed to withstand convention. It is made to dismiss the ritualistic and the clichés. Created to oppose the expected, eliminate the empty traditions and discover the undiscovered. Two functional parts are all that remain of the past. Purpose alone is sacred.

The machine is totally new. But some already known  cues  are reappearing. Distinct aeronautical lines. A flowing, aerodynamic exterior. A thin fastback finish. For the first time in decades, a stunning machine emerges with the aesthetic impact and the performance prowess worthy of the Stingray emblem.

This is the most ambitious 3000-pound weight target coming out on the market, C7 is constructed like an aircraft. The three-rail space frame GM patented for C5 continues with greater and better improvements. The hydroformed-aluminum main members developed for Z06 and ZR1 are now standard across all C7s, an upgrade enabled by transferring frame manufacturing from an outside supplier to the Corvette’s Bowling Green assembly plant. Carbon-fiber (CF) floor and bulkhead panels adhesively bonded between the central backbone and the perimeter rails augment structural stiffness. We also expect CF to replace all the sheet-molded fiberglass exterior panels. A single-piece lift-off roof—a Corvette feature since 1984—remains standard on the coupe.

2014 MERCEDES-BENZ SLC

This very hot and widely anticipated car is expected to give the Porsche 911 a speedy run for its money. It probably won’t have the gull-wing doors that the Porsche 911 has, but it will most likely have a light Carbon fibre frame and a V8 engine.

Car enthusiasts who are not well-versed with Mercedes-Benz’s history might not recall the SLC badge. It was used from 1971 to 1981 and can be described as a more personal luxury coupe-oriented version of the popular SL roadster. The SLC had a larger interior than the SL thanks to its significantly longer wheelbase. Although not a huge seller in absolute terms, the car was a moneymaker and image builder for Mercedes-Benz despite its somewhat awkward roofline and, in North America, its large NHTSA-mandated 5 mph bumpers.

The SLC will likely begin at around $120,000, but it will be a more overtly sporty than Mercedes’ similarly priced droptop SL roadsters. A convertible version with a fabric top is also expected.

GUIDO FORTI........1940 - 2013

GUIDO FORTI

Swimming at the back of the field is a tough spot. Time after time, including this year's HRT team, we have seen the small fry lose for the lack of money.

Guido Forti ran his small team 'FORTI' throughout its short stint in Formula One from 1995 to 1996. However, in the middle of the 1996 Formula One season, the team were struggling to secure funding due to driver Pedro Diniz's departure to the Ligier team at the start of the year. As a result, a financial deal was struck with the Shannon Group, which announced that it now owned 51% of the team. However, as Forti's financial situation worsened further inspite of the deal, Guido took the Shannon Group to court to try to get back the 51% of the team he had lost. After an initial loss to Shannon in a court case, Forti managed to regain control of his team, but at this stage the outfit had already missed several Grands Prix and did not return to the sport.

Guido Forti who had a nice looking car with some not so bad finishes has passed away at age 72.

MONEY TO BURN

A 67th floor waterfront condo for sale overlooking Chicago's Lake Michigan boasts unbelievable views and high-end luxury – and that’s just in the garage.

Hiding behind two ordinary doors, the condo’s included 12-car garage converted into a Ferrari-themed showroom and entertainment space is seen sheltering four Ferraris, two Porsches and an Austin Healey.

Rolled across bright red lacquered floors, the red and white vintage sports cars are just the accessories of a 2,700-square-foot heated showroom featuring track lighting, heating, and even a bar.
Listed all together for $3.4 million in Lake Point Tower - cars regrettably not listed as included - the upstairs, while slightly-smaller, is of course another heavy feature to note.

Spanning 2,500-square feet, the one-bedroom features a shared living and dining room beside an open-walled kitchen.

Though the interior is for the most part washed in a simple white, from the carpets to the walls and ceiling, the encompassing birds-eye views of Lake Michigan and Chicago's skyline provide it with any livening spice needed.

Building amenities include a private park, health club, restaurant & grocery.

But if finding the upstairs unappealing and the heated garage would do just as nicely on its own, it is listed separately by the owner for $2.2million.

An award-winning 70-story building situated between the mainland and Navy Pier, surrounding entertainment includes the Navy Piere IMAX Theatre and beer garden, the Pepsi Skyline Stage, Chicago Shakespeare Theater, Chicago Funhouse Maz and Smith Museum of Stained Glass Windows.

Past and present residents of the Lake Point Tower have included Goldie Hawn and Kurt Russell, Mickey Rooney, musician Alice Cooper, and at least eight athletes from the Chicago Cubs, Bulls and White Sox.

BUYER BEWARE

Last night I spent a couple of hours watching a car auction. Not my usual classic car auction, but for 300 of the many thousands of 'Sandy' flooded cars and motorcycles. People have to understand that these cars will never be right again. Somebody is going to make them look good and put them out on the market. There is going to be a lot of pissed-off Americans out there in the driving world. Not just in America, they were selling them all over the world. Africa, Lebanon, Ganya, Latvia, Georgia, Israel, Nigeria. In all 50 of the United States. Sure, it is appealing to buy a brand new car for $5,000 or high-end cars for $10-12-15,000, but what are the returns. Zilch! Except for the guy that fixes and peddles it first. Beware, beware.

Another thing that was brought to my attention was this quick report on E-15 fuel that is being sold across America which corrodes just as bad as sitting in salt water. It will only take a couple of minutes to watch this, but you should do just that....watch it: http://video.foxbusiness.com/v/2000862202001/

By the way, a good portion of vehicles shown in the auction were still standing in water. Not as high as the picture above, but high enough to make you wonder.

AN OFFER FROM THE STATE OF CALIFORNIA

The California Department of Motor Vehicles announced that beginning New Year’s Day, owners of classics can go online to apply for one of the DMV’s new California Legacy Plates. They’re era-correct, which specifically means a yellow plate with black characters for the 1950s, a black plate with yellow characters for the 1960s and a deep blue plate with yellow characters for the 1970s. Early last year, assemblyman Mike Gatto (D-Los Angeles) proposed the bill (AB 1658) that would create the Legacy Plate program if at least 7,500 applications for the plates are received over the next two years. The bill passed in August.

Cost is $50, either personalized or non-personalized. To order the plates, visit www.DMV.CA.gov
