FORMULA ONE IN HUNGARY

This is a travel day and the computer I am using will not let met download any pictures. Too bad, because I love this picture. Not because Lewis Hamilton won today, but because Kimi Raikkonen came in second. His teammate, Romain Grosjean, came in third.

This is Hamilton's second win of the season. Kimi Raikkonen has finished on the podium five times out of the eleven races that have been run so far. This is the second time this season that he and Grosjean have been on the podium together. As I said before, it is only a matter of time before one of them makes a win.

SPECIAL OF THE WEEK

1965 FORD GOOD HUMOR TRUCK

This is an original Good Humor truck from 1965, with the original Hackney Brothers build data plate showing it’s date of manufacture and serial number. It retains the original porcelain panels with the original graphics which are still in amazing condition. Porcelain corner panels on freezer, as well as porcelain sign boards, compressor and trash lid panels. Original porcelain cash box still mounted in the cab.

The truck was restored in 2008. The following work was done.
Engine and transmission removed and rebuilt. (Engine I6 300)
Original Holley carburetor with governor rebuilt. (This is the original carburetor made for Good Humor trucks)
Radiator boiled out and pressure tested.
Currently has new distributor and NOS Motorcraft carburetor.
New alternator.
New headlamp switch, new ignition switch.
New speedometer cable.
Steering box rebuilt with NOS Ford parts.
New King Pins

New tie rods, and drag link.
New coil springs, new leaf springs.
New shocks.
New transmission cooler lines.
New NOS gas tank installed with new lines, and new fuel pump.
Brakes have new components as well as wheel cylinders.
Rear axle has had a new pinion seal placed.

Freezer will get down to -25 -30 degrees.

Restored the freezer floor by removing the insulation, plywood, and galvanized steel, then replacing with new galvanized steel, marine plywood coated with multiple coats of shellac, blown in close cell insulating foam, then new galvanized steel for the freezer floor.

The rear serving door has a new Kason handle and latch.

The interior of the freezer has an oak support rack that I made for the product to be lifted off the freezer floor for better air flow around the product.

The body has new NOS rear fenders, two original replacement front fenders, and original hood. The front fenders I purchased from Arizona and are perfect with no filler. The hood I purchased from California and is perfect as well with no filler.

The truck was stripped and painted by a professional restoration shop.
All of the screws on the freezer were replaced with stainless with finishing washers.
Wheels were media blasted and repainted, and have NOS Ford wheel covers.
All of the wiring for the freezer lights was replaced. New power inverters were installed for brighter lights for the fluorescents.

It is a fully functional ice cream truck.

INDYCAR IN CANADA (WEST)

TAKUMA SATO - 2nd, HELIO CASTRONEVES - 1st, WILL POWER - 3rd

For as much as Formula One (Germany) almost put me to sleep this Indycar race had me on the edge of me seat. Going in I felt that this race would be a loser, held on a very flat airport surface. I never liked airport races from day one. In Edmonton's favor they totally revamped the track. Qualifying was withing 10's of a second.

Helio Castroneves came in first, barely, as Takuma Sato was only 0.8367 of a second behind him. Castroneves was thrilled because two years ago, at this very track, he had a win taken away from him by a penalty for blocking. Psssst! It is just racing. Will Power came in third.

Sato, who is still my favorite for this year, was in second-third-fourth, second-third-fourth, second-third-fourth, it was hard to tell where he would end up. When he was finally closing in on Castroneves at the end I am sure that his team told him to just hang on for the second spot. He has a history of taking the dive for the win only to crash out. This was his highest Indycar finish to date.

I don't like same race penalties on those that finish in the top three. As with Castroneves two years ago or with Vettel today in Formula One. These people have earned that spot by risking life and limb. If race control can't give a penalty timely then they should carry it over to qualifying on the next race. Believe me, a 20 second penalty in qualifying will put them at the back of the pack.

FORMULA ONE IN GERMANY

FERNANDO ALONSO - 1st PLACE

This race was a 'ho-hum' race in my mind. The only excitement was that the first three places were up in the air until the last few laps. Alonso seemed to have a clear win until Vettel and Button got within shooting distance. Button started having tire problems and Vettel passed him with two laps to go pulling into second. It was not to last because he passed with all four wheels off the road. Rules are that if you go off the road you can't use it to better your position. So, Vettel got a 20 second penalty that put him in fifth place. Which allowed Kimi Raikkonen to go from fourth to third.

SPECIAL OF THE WEEK

1955 LANCIA D50

The Lancia D50 was a Formula One racing car designed by Vittorio Jano for Lancia in 1954. The car's design made use of many innovative features, such as the use of the engine as a stressed chassis member, the off-centre positioning of the engine to allow a lower overall height, and pannier fuel cells for better weight distribution and aerodynamics. Six of the cars were built, two of them are displayed in Italian museums.

The D50 made its race debut toward the end of the 1954 Formula One season in the hands of two-time and reigning World Champion, Italian driver Alberto Ascari. In its very first event Ascari took both pole position in qualifying and fastest race lap, although his car's clutch failed after only ten laps. Following Ascari's death, and in increasing financial trouble, the Lancia family sold their controlling share in the Lancia company, and the assets of Scuderia Lancia were given to Scuderia Ferrari. Ferrari continued to develop the car, although they removed many of Jano's most innovative designs, and the car was rebadged as the Lancia-Ferrari D50 and later simply the Ferrari D50.

1965 PORSCHE

This 356 is said to be a numbers-matching, generally original car that runs and drives well. It has some fiddly issues, such as horn button, horn grille, hood latch and turn signal not yet installed, but the mechanicals sound strong and were recently gone over.

INDYCAR IN CANADA (EAST)

Ryan Hunter-Reay does it again. Followed by Charlie Kimball and Mike Conway. These are three 'feel good' finishes. For Ryan Hunter-Reay it was his third win in a row, no easy feat by anyone's guess. Charlie Kimball, a sufferer of diabetes, collected his all time highest finish in the series. Mike Conway, who had two terrible Indy 500 crashes in the last two years, finished third.

FORMULA ONE IN ENGLAND

My personal favorite, Mark Webber, made an exciting pass with four laps to go for the win. Fernando Alonso had been leading most of the race, but had to settle for second. Sebastian Vettel, Webber's teammate, came in third. These three are in the lead with the championship points with Alonso 13 points ahead of Webber and 29 points ahead of Vettel. Germany is up next....hang on.
