INDYCAR IN MICHIGAN - RACE ONE

WILL POWER - RACE ONE IN DETROIT

Indycar, famous for its last laps shoot outs, had a 10 lap shoot out in my hometown of Detroit. Divided into two separate races the winner of race one was Will Power. Nice for hometown team owner Roger Penske. Racing on the island of Belle Isle, now a State Park, is different than the days of Formula One racing on the streets of downtown Detroit. They have been trying to make the island more fan friendly. Will Power, in this shoot out, beat Graham Rahal by .3308 seconds, not enough to sneeze, but enough to win. Tony Kanaan came in third.

Takuma Sato had an accident early on and struggled the whole race ending in 18th place, 5 laps down. He may have been 5 laps down, but that didn't prevent him from having the fastest lap which puts him on the pole position for race two.
